| Martin Luther King Jr leading a march |
The movie "Selma" is about the civil rights movement and more specifically giving blacks the right to vote without having any extra requirements that they would have to complete. They had many marches and partial marches, many were cut short from the police officers using violence. I think that this film is about the evil in everyone, what it takes to overcome oppression, and the good the media can be. I think the movie did very well at showing these things.
I really enjoyed watching this film. I like that it brought up other things that were going on in our country besides the movement like the Vietnam war. Even though I thought it was a good film it could have been better at showing more of the violence that the people went through.
I had a lot of prior knowledge before watching this film. I have learned much of what was in the movie from past classes and other movies about the topic. These shaped my opinion of the film a decent amount because the violence that the activists were up against didn't come as a surprise to me. The movie showed me things that I knew about since I was like 10 years old. I feel strongly about equal rights to everyone because I have great friends that are black and I would like them to be treated just as well as me no matter where that they are. The fact that I know people who are black makes me feel that this film could have done a better job of showing the struggle of what they had to go through for day to day life.

I agree on how I also had a lot of prior knowledge to the film and knew a lot about the event.
ReplyDeleteI can see how having a lot of prior knowledge would be beneficial in watching this film.
